What are the best tactics to use to rank higher in Google search results over a competitor?
I’ll give you another example of how I dealt with the belief that caused me to procrastinate. A few years ago, I was procrastinating on working on one of my projects because I was scared that it would take a lot of effort. I realized that this was an irrational belief and replaced it with a rational one: “Even though this project is likely to take a lot of effort, it’s also going to be fun and rewarding.”
I then identified the situations and rewards that were causing me to procrastinate. First, I identified the belief that it would take a lot of effort as the culprit, so I replaced that with a more rational one. Then I listed out all of the situations and rewards that motivated me to work on my project despite thinking it would be difficult. Once I made this list, I could see how irrational my “default” belief was.
Here’s a tip for you: if you focus on changing your beliefs and the situation around you isn’t improving yet, it probably means that there are still some rewards pulling you towards procrastination. This is common because we often have to deal with negative emotions like fear, anxiety, and anger when we’re in a difficult situation. So it’s highly likely that we’re subconsciously looking for rewards to make us feel better about the situation in those situations.
I’m sure you’ve felt this way before: you want to quit something because it’s hard and unrewarding, but other people are telling you how great it is or how much you’ll love it once you get started. You might want to pay attention to that voice because it probably means that there are still rewards you’re subconsciously looking for in this situation (for example, your family/friends).
